Spanish foodies

When I was in Nottingham , I realized we have really good food in Spain. What I missed the most was jamón serrano, which was something rare because I don't used to eat much jamón when I'm at home.

The other things I missed were basics like chocolate or cookies. In UK I ate really good cookies (my favourite ones were choc chip & hazelnut Maryland), but I missed a lot the Artinata from Spanish brand Artiach.

They are made with wafer and cream, lemon, chocolate, coconut or nougat. I've tried the nougat and lemon, but the cream ones are my favorites!! The lemon ones are good too, but the other's are too sweet for my taste. 

The other thing, the chocolate, could seem silly to you, but here we have a really good brand for a good price. Of course you can find really good chocolate in many places, if you pay the price. But the brand Valor is not expensive and the quality is very very good. With the confectionery is not very good in my opinion, but the chocolate bars are supreme! I always buy the chocolate with milk and almonds. They have many more, without milk, with hazelnut, without sugar... 

I didn't find with milk, so this is puro, which means pure, you'd say dark or black chocolate

For Christmas we eat turrón (nougat), it's really sweet, so I didn't miss it because I don't like it too much. And also... marzipan! How did you guess? But, this marzipan we eat in Christmas is sweeter than the other we eat in "Tots Sants" or "Sant Dionís", so I don't eat too much. Mr Glass favourite turrón is the almond and sugar one, and it's the most tipical here.

Another sweet (really sweet) that we eat in Christmas at home is Marrón Glacé. It's expensive, but it worths every cent. Well, the ones I buy are expensive, but they're so good that I don't even think of buying a cheaper ones. I think it's the only "super-sweet" thing I love, and it's simple, just a confited chestnut. Last year I saw they also have chestnuts with xocolate and two or three more varieties, but I think the normal one it's sweet enough, and if you add other flavours it wouldn't have that chestnut flavour which I love. In conclusion, if you love chestnuts, you'll love Marrón Glacé.

I'm planning to send an special mail for Christmas (nothing big, don't panic) and I'd like to know if you're interested in trying some Spanish food. About bones, bonies and huesitos

Here we don't have a proper Halloween celebration. Just the restaurants, pubs, clubs and such places have a Halloween decoration, but we don't place any carved pumpkin out of the house or children ask for sweets door by door. Young people (not me) usually put their fancy dresses on and go to parties, and shops sell sweets and decorations, but I don't like them at all. It's like a fake and bad imitation of the true celebration. So I don't celebrate it.

In fact, we have our own celebration. Here in Valencia we call it "Tots Sants" (All Saints), and it's about visit the cemetery to honour the family member whom are not with you any longer, and it's on 1st November. That day we eat "ossets de tots sants" (all saints' bonies) and talk about the member we miss and remember how they used to make us laugh, so we laugh again thanks to the memories. On 31st October we also tell scary stories and my grandma used to tell me on that day you can see the spirits of the dead people if you're not a good child.

The "ossets de tots sants" are made by marzipan, pine nuts and sometimes chocolate. I think we eat a lot of marzipan here, well, we have so many almonds, lucky me! Normally, they have the size of a small meatball. And they're really good. I can't wait for eating them, it's something that you can find only when it's "Tots Sants".

But I also like the good and well done Halloween. Well, I love sweets, why don't tell the truth? I'd like to be in Korea right now, just for visiting this monster cafe where they do these amazing cupcakes. And then, immediately teletransport to another place, like Whitney's door, and ask her for sweets.

And talking about bones, do you know this chocolate bar? It's a Spanish one!! For me, it's the best ever and I love it. The name is Huesitos, it means "bonies" and it comes from the surname of the inventor, Hueso. Now you can find them as Cadbury and Milka brand, because the owner sold the factory. I don't eat Huesitos since I was a child, but I'll buy some day again, and I hope they kept the orinigal recipe.

La Petite Planèthé

I went to my favourite shop in Valencia, La Petite Planèthé, for Whitney's Photo Hunt. It's located in the city center and you can find any kind of tea or infussion. They also have a small selection of gourmet products as Dolphin chocolates or Jules Destrooper biscuits. Everything in this shop is armonious and cozy. I love the way they have all the teapots and cups disposed. It's the best place for buying a special present for a tea drinker (like me ^^).

Fui a mi tienda favorita en Valencia, La Petite Planèthé, para el Photo Hunt de Whitney. Está en pleno centro y puedes encontrar cualquier variedad de té e infusiones. También tienen una pequeña colección de productos gurmet como los chocolates Dolphin o galletas de Jules Destrooper. Todo en esta tienda es armonioso y acogedor. Me encanta la disposición de las teteras y tazas. Es el mejor lugar para comprar un regalo especial para un bebedor de té (como yo ^^).

It's plenty of marvelous smells and they always have a taster of some infussion or tea. You also can buy  an iced tea. I love every single corner of this shop, really!

Está llena de olores maravillosos y siempre tienen té o infusión para probar. También puedes comprar té granizado. Adoro cada rinconcito de esta tienda, ¡de verdad!

Don't you want to spend a whole evening reading a good book on that armchair? 

No me digas que no estarías toda la tarde leyendo un buen libro en ese sillón.

2ª edición del "The pop up market"

Como lo prometido es deuda aquí tenéis mi recopilatorio de nuevos descubrimientos. Bueno, algunos ya los conocía, pero cogí lo que más me gustó.

Lo primero que reconocí fue el puesto de Manitas de plata que, cómo no, tenía una de complementos muy originales y arrebatadores. He de reconocer que fue un esfuerzo no comprar nada, pero tengo los gastos contados. Así que entra en mi "wish list" de regalos para Navidad...

Me quedé con la boca abierta con el trabajo de Neus Manteiga, yo también quiero saber hacer todo eso. Aunque no me pude quedar mucho tiempo mirando su puesto porque había una oleada de gente que me hacía ir hacia delante. La verdad es que el espacio queda pequeño, así no se puede disfrutar del talento de los demás...

Luego Kishboo llamó mi atención (otro que se va para la "wish list" de complementos). Sencillo y con encanto, como a mi me gusta. Porque he de reconocer que hay cosas muy coloridas y preciosas, pero yo no sé combinar ropa ni colores. Así que cuando me compro algo genial-fantástico me siento mal cuando me lo pongo, porque no se hacerlo lucir. A mí me tendrían que regalar un armario con conjuntos fijos, porque hago de cada destrozo...


También encontré complementos muy originales de mano de Kandy Diseños. Aunque pasé rápido por su puesto porque vi a una mujer robando un anillo... cosa que me supo realmente mal porque no pude avisar a la legítima propietaria.

Y luego vi algo que me dejo con la boca abierta, algo así como la que puso la boa del Principito cuando se estaba metiendo dentro el elefante. Son miniaturas perfectas, la marca se llama Moon Rose y realmente es abrumador el parecido a la realidad. Lo único que no me ha gustado, aunque sin ánimo de ofender a nadie, es el tipo de publicidad. Estoy haciendo referencia a la última entrada del blog, en la que anuncian que se van a publicitar en un programa de prensa rosa. Estoy bastante en contra de los programas de prensa rosa y en particular en el que anunciarán la marca. No por nada en concreto, ni es nada personal, pero creo que ese tipo de programas no son nada beneficiosos para la mente humana. Los veo como una especie de máquina maléfica que absorbe la inteligencia y la bondad de las personas. Donde yo trabajaba siempre estaba puesto y NUNCA he oído que dijeran nada bueno. Se basa en criticar, juzgar, insultar e inmiscuirse en la vida de los demás. No veo que ofrezcan ningún beneficio a nadie, no se interesan por los demás con un fin noble. Además usan un lenguaje que no veo nada adecuado para un horario infantil. Yo soy más del vive y deja vivir. Así que cada cual es libre de ver lo que quiera y no los prohibiría, pero me gusta pensar que en esta nueva corriente "handmade"se promociona el pensar por uno mismo y se desea el bien para los demás. Un poco de mezcla entre manualidades con estilo y algo de corriente hippie.

No sé donde oí o leí que los japoneses dan mucha importancia a vivir de una manera positiva y por eso, cuando no les gusta un sitio o hay algún local donde no les han tratado bien, simplemente no vuelven. Creo que lo vi en un documental. Así no hacen más grande la experiencia negativa que hayan podido tener. Por lo que, después de decir algo negativo en contra de los programas de prensa rosa voy a dejaros con una foto bien bonita. Le perdí la pista al cachorro, aunque la gata aún se deja ver de vez en cuando.

El gato de Miquel

Mi cojín de gato abrazador ya está en marcha, en mucha marcha. Estoy bordando la cara (me queda sólo un iris y un ojo entero). Tengo todas las piezas ya preparadas y cortadas. Cuando lo tenga acabado veréis lo mono que es. Aunque yo pensaba que acabaría antes...

Ahora ya tiene la nariz y la boca acabadas. Y hablando de gatos, me he propuesto fotografiar a todos los gatos que me pillen con la cámara encima. De momento no puedo tener animales en casa y yo siempre he querido tener un perro, un gato o ambos. Los gatos dan mucha inspiración. Así que hasta que llegue el día en que Mr. Glass me venga con una cajita con agujeros y un lazo grande y que maúlle tendré que hacer fotos gatunas.

Este gato es el de una librería antigua de Valencia, muy bonita. Tengo que hacerle buenas fotos cuando esté abierta porque es una maravilla. Sacan una mesita con un par de sillitas y ves al gato por ahí bambando en pleno centro. Nunca he entrado dentro, pero desde fuera se ve que tiene muchoh encanto. Si entro me enamoraré de la edición más cara de la tienda y será un amor no consumido, ya que mi bolsillo no está para esos gastos ahora mismo. Pero es algo que siempre me pasa, una vez fui a por un costurero para mi cuñada y me gustó el único que costaba más de 60€. De todas maneras la librería siempre me ha gustado. Es un rincón precioso y espero ser de su clientela algún día.

Y este otro gato es un cariñosín que encontramos ayer Mr. Glass y yo en un paseo que dimos por Valencia, cerca del Pop up market. He echado en falta el puesto de "all washi tapes". Esta vez no estaba tan a reventar como la primera pero también estaba hasta los topes. Tengo un recopilatorio de tarjetas de los puestos que más me gustaron, así que dentro de poco os reseñaré lo que más me gustó y unas pocas fotos.
