Sometimes we can be very stubborn. I began to see lots of hand made rubber stamps some months ago, and I saw them so long that I got very curious, and I wanted to learn. I didn't find the tools here in Nottingham, so I resolved to wait until I go to Spain in January. But, I couldn't wait "so long" and I took a needle, a pair of scissors and a kitchen knife and I started to carve a stamp with all my patient and carefulness. The result was not so bad as it could have been. Even so, when I got home in Spain I bought all the tools for doing the very best stamps ever. Here is the difference between my first monster of the caverns and one of my latest stamps made with the gouges.
Lately I've seen lots of easy tutorials, but I learnt with one from Ishtar and another one from Gennine. With Ishtar's manual I learnt the basic things and since then it has been trying again and again (and kill some poor creatures doing the wrong thing). I think I've talked sometime about Gennine, but I recommend you have a look to her videos. I love watching her painting or carving, she's amazing. I made a feather stamp while I was watching her video (so, Gennine, we have carved together ^^) and, of corse I don't have the skills she has and I'm faaaaar away from drawing like her, the stamp is really nice and it matches anywhere.Who has tried to carve knows the satisfaction you have when you see any stamp you've made with your own hands. And who doesn't try, what are you waiting for? Besides, it's quite cheap if we compare it with another handmade projects and you can do anything you want. For me the push was this blog, awesome! The day I can do the half good as her stamps I'll cry of happiness.
